Computer-adaptive Placement, Assessment, and Support System - Writing Exams Facts

The TOEFL exam is a computerized test that consists of four different sections. These sections include Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. There is a total of four hours for the completion of this test. All these parts are well timed. The Speaking section is allotted 20 minutes for the completion and the Writing area has a total of 50 minutes. The time duration for the Reading and Listening parts vary as a result of the un-scored questions. The duration for the Listening section varies between 60 to 90 minutes while the Reading part comes with 60-80 minutes. The un-scored questions are not highlighted in the exam, so you have to answer all of them to the best of your ability. Within four hours, the students have a ten-minute break, which comes between the Speaking and Listening sections. In addition to this, the candidates may choose to take some other breaks in during the test. The only thing is that you will be unable to put the computer timer on hold for the breaks.

During the TOEFL exam, you will receive a pencil and scratch paper for your calculations. You will also get a headset with a functioning microphone for the Listening part of the test. You will need to listen to audio clips of questions and record your responses in the Speaking section. Each of the sections in the exam is scored on a scale of 30 points. At the end of the TOEFL test, the points will be combined to give a total score on a scale of 120. Your official score report will be made available online about ten days after taking your test. For the Reading part of the exam, you will receive three to four reading passages with about 700 words each. They cover different academic topics, ranging from art and history to psychology and science. There are about 12 to 14 questions on each of the passage, covering inserting a sentence, reading to learn, and multiple-choice questions.

There are various learning resources that are available for the exam preparation. You can check the TOEFL official website for all the recommended resources. There are also some reputable online platforms that offer training and exam questions samples to help one prepare for the test.
