Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) started in 1982 under a different name. Their first IT certification, popularly known as A+, came about in 1993. Their certifications are neutral and are not specific to a particular vendor. Currently, there are four certification levels offered by CompTIA. Below, we are going to look at what each of these levels is all about.
- Basic Level Certifications
- Professional Certifications
- Master Level
- Specialty Level Certifications
At this level is the CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification that is ideal for those starting out in IT and is familiar with basics like software and hardware installations, system security risks and their prevention, as well as some basic networking.
They cover system support, security, project management, networking and storage. The certifications offered at this level are CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Cyber Security Analyst (CSA), CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Cloud+, CompTIA Mobility+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Project+ and CompTIA Linux+.
There is only one certification at this level, namely, CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP). It targets professionals involved in planning, designing and implementation of security based solutions in an enterprise. The prerequisites are a 10 year experience in an IT field and also 5 years as a technical security professional.
They cover specific niche markets like social media and digital marketing. They include CompTIA CDIA+, CompTIA Cloud Essentials, CompTIA Healthcare IT Technician and CompTIA CTT+.
